Thousands of visitors are expected to descend on Sturminster Newton this September as one of Dorset’s best-loved food festivals returns for another weekend celebrating the region’s finest produce.

The Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival takes place on 12th and 13th September, filling the town with artisan cheese makers, local food and drink producers, crafts, live music and family entertainment.
Cheese may be the headline attraction, but regular visitors know the festival offers far more than dairy delights. Alongside award-winning cheeses from across the West Country, there will be artisan food stalls, local crafts, demonstrations and plenty of opportunities to meet the people behind the produce. Real ale, cider and wine bars will keep visitors refreshed while live music provides the soundtrack throughout the weekend.

Run entirely by volunteers under the auspices of Sturminster Newton Rotary Club, the festival has become one of North Dorset’s biggest annual events since it was first held in 1999. Over the past decade it has donated more than £450,000 to local charities and community organisations, ensuring every ticket sold helps support good causes across the area.
Whether you’re searching for a new favourite cheese, stocking up on familiar treats, browsing handmade crafts or simply enjoying good food with friends, the festival has earned a reputation as one of Dorset’s friendliest weekends out.
Children aged 15 and under receive free admission when accompanied by a paying adult, making it an affordable family day out.
