A Dorset spice producer has been recognised among the world’s best food and drink businesses after winning a coveted three-star Great Taste Award.
Stony Groves, based in Dorset, received the highest accolade for its Rockfish Spice Blend at this year’s Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food. Only 306 products achieved the prestigious three-star rating from more than 15,000 entries judged through a blind tasting process.
Judges described Rockfish as ‘a really exciting blend’ with ‘the most amazing aroma – sweet, spicy, intriguing’, while also praising it as ‘a flavour bomb’.
The seasoning combines Timut pepper from Nepal with Kampot pepper from Cambodia and is used in dishes served at the Rockfish seafood restaurant group.
Stony Groves also collected two 2-star awards, for its Nepalese Timut Pepper and Black Kampot Pepper, together with one-star awards for its Citrusy Timut Rock Salt and Kampot Crab-shack Spice Blend. Owner George Norbert-Munns said the award was the culmination of years of work: ‘Nothing could prepare me for being told that our Rockfish Spice Blend had won three stars. This is a huge achievement that has come after years of hard work.’
George, who spent almost a decade living in Cambodia before settling in rural Dorset, founded Stony Groves in 2021. Today the company’s products are stocked by retailers including Harrods and Rockfish, as well as appearing at food festivals around the UK.
