Newton composer Richard Nye will receive its first complete public performance this month, almost two years after it attracted international attention in the United States. In July 2024, Richard was interviewed by New York-based music organisation Composer’s Voice, before the opening movement of his composition The Fragmentalist was performed by Dr Andrew White, Professor of Voice at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Now, almost exactly two years later, Dr White returns to the work during a UK concert tour, giving the première of all three movements at St Michael’s Church, Mere, on Sunday 12th July at 5pm. Admission is free, with a retiring collection in aid of the Friends of St Michael’s. The recital, organised by the Friends of St Michael’s, will also feature music from the international Fifteen Minutes of Fame project, a series of new works written specifically for Dr White by composers from around the world.
The concert offers local audiences a rare opportunity to hear the first complete performance of a work by a Dorset composer alongside contemporary music from the international stage.
