June’s Open Farm Sunday draws 1,500 visitors

Date:

This year’s Open Farm Sunday was on 7th June and our local Dorset event was at Knife Hill Farm, Winterborne Stickland. The weather was kind, and around 1,500 visitors joined us to enjoy a wonderful day on the farm, learning more about where their food comes from and gaining a greater understanding of modern farming.

Open Farm Sunday

Open Farm Sunday is a fantastic community event made possible by a dedicated network of local farmers who work together to make the day a success.
Organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), the event continues to grow in popularity each year, and it has been wonderful to see increasing numbers of people attending. Visitors travelled from across Dorset and neighbouring counties to take part.
Events such as Open Farm Sunday, agricultural shows, and school visits play an important role in reconnecting people with farming and helping them understand how food is produced. They provide valuable opportunities to bring communities closer to agriculture and encourage future generations to appreciate the hard work that goes into producing the food on their tables.
It would be wonderful to hear more children say that their food comes from farmers rather than simply ‘from supermarkets’. We do encourage everyone to seek out and support their local agricultural shows and farming events.

Love Local, Trust Local Awards
Judging for this year’s awards has now begun. We certainly do not envy the judges – the standard of entries is exceptional and choosing the winners will be no easy task. Tickets for the 24th September awards evening are now available. Early bird tickets are priced at £35, so please come along and help us celebrate the wonderful people who work tirelessly to produce some of the finest food and drink Dorset has to offer.
We look forward to welcoming you for what promises to be a fantastic evening.
