Dorchester shopfront awards draw 190 nominations

Date:

A Dorchester initiative recognising the quality of high street presentation has drawn nearly 200 public nominations, highlighting the importance of independent businesses to the town economy.
Dorchester Town Council and Dorchester Business Improvement District (BID) announced the finalists for the Spring 2026 Shopfront of the Season awards.

The scheme focuses on businesses that contribute to the town’s appearance and customer experience, particularly within its historic setting.
This year’s competition attracted 190 nominations from the town’s residents. Entries were judged against criteria including sensitivity to the conservation area, accessibility, upkeep and the strength of window displays.
The shortlisted businesses are Wedding Time Bridal Salon and Men’s Formalwear, Nikki’s Little Play Café, Bells Hair Salon, The Wooden Floor Specialists (Dorset) Ltd and Loving by Nature.
Wedding Time Bridal Salon and Men’s Formalwear received the highest number of nominations, with residents highlighting its seasonal displays and the way it complements its Grade II listed frontage.
Nikki’s Little Play Café was recognised for its inclusive approach and role as a community space, while Bells Hair Salon was praised for consistently changing its displays to reflect the seasons. The Wooden Floor Specialists (Dorset) Ltd was noted for the presentation of its premises and its family-run service, and Loving by Nature for its strong customer relationships and community involvement.
The judging panel, which includes the Mayor and representatives from the BID and Town Centre Action Group, will now visit each finalist before selecting an overall winner.
While largely symbolic, the awards form part of a broader effort to support town centre vitality, where visual standards and customer experience can influence footfall and trading conditions for independent retailers.

  • Wedding Time Bridal Salon and Men’s Formalwear was declared the winner on 30th April
