A confident next step in a child’s educational journey comes when curiosity turns into independence, and the excitement of discovery becomes a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
At Clayesmore, education has always been about recognising that every child is different — and that these differences are something to celebrate. Set in the beautiful Dorset countryside, the school has built a reputation for helping pupils thrive not only academically, but creatively, socially and personally. From September 2026, this distinctive approach will begin even earlier with the opening of Clayesmore’s new Pre-Prep for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
The Pre-Prep will offer a nurturing and stimulating environment where young children are encouraged to explore, question and grow in confidence. Small classes and expert teaching ensure that every child is known as an individual, whether they are naturally academic, creatively curious, sporty or still discovering their strengths.

A typical day
The school day will begin at 8am, with registration from 8.30am, helping children settle calmly into their learning. Throughout the day, pupils will experience a lively and carefully balanced curriculum designed for young learners. This will include literacy, numeracy, phonics and story time, alongside specialist-led experiences such as Forest School, PE, swimming and music. Interactive play will remain at the heart of the day, ensuring children learn through curiosity, creativity and hands-on exploration. Each element is designed to build confidence, independence and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.
The school day will finish at 3.15pm, with opportunities for children to extend their day through a variety of after-school activities. These may include art, cooking, football and gardening, offering further chances to develop skills, interests and friendships in a relaxed setting. For working parents or those collecting older siblings, flexible wraparound care will be available. Children can be collected at 4.20pm following activities, or they may stay for a light drink and snack until 5pm. This extended provision ensures the day is both enriching and practical for modern family life, while maintaining the same warm, supportive ethos that defines Clayesmore.

A seamless pathway
Learning at Clayesmore is enriched by a broad programme of sport, outdoor education and co-curricular opportunities that encourage curiosity, resilience and teamwork. From creative arts and music to time spent exploring the school’s beautiful grounds, even the youngest pupils are supported to develop independence and a genuine love of learning.
The opening of the Pre-Prep builds naturally on the success of Clayesmore’s recently launched Nursery, allowing families to begin their child’s journey within the Clayesmore community from the earliest years. Together, these new additions create a seamless pathway through the school, rooted in care, ambition and opportunity.
At Clayesmore, the goal is simple: to create an environment where every child can thrive — from the very first day.
Families interested in discovering more are warmly invited to join the Pre-Prep Taster Day on 16 May, offering children the chance to experience the environment first-hand. Private tours are also available throughout the term.
