Staff and residents at The Malthouse in Gillingham are getting ready to throw open their doors to the local community as part of Care Home Open Week, taking place from 15th to 21st June.
Care Home Open Week is a national event that sees thousands of care teams across the country welcoming visitors in, giving people the chance to meet residents and staff, look around the home and find out more about life in care.
This year’s theme, Care is Coming Home, has a World Cup feel, with homes across the country being encouraged to get into the football spirit. At the Malthouse, residents have already been sharing their favourite football memories and are looking forward to choosing which countries they’ll be supporting during the week.
The home has planned a range of themed activities to bring everyone together, with plenty of opportunities for residents, families and visitors to join in the fun.
Events taking place during the week include:
Monday 15th June – Balloon Football 2pm – 3pm
Tuesday 16th June – Competitive blow football with straws 2pm – 3pm
Wednesday 17th June – Quiz about three different countries 2pm – 3pm
Thursday 18th June – Steve sings through the ages 11am – 12pm
Friday 19th June – Scrabble with tea, coffee and football themed cakes. 2pm-3.30pm
Local people, community groups and families are all invited to pop in during the week, enjoy the activities and see first-hand what daily life at the home is like.

As well as celebrating with themed events, the week is about strengthening links with the local community and helping people feel more confident about stepping inside a care home.
