Crowds lined the streets of Blandford Forum today as King Charles III and Queen Camilla paid a visit to the town, drawing hundreds of well-wishers eager to catch a glimpse of the royal couple.
Their Majesties began the day at Hall & Woodhouse’s Badger Brewery in Blandford St Mary, marking the start of the independent brewer’s 250th anniversary celebrations. During the visit they met members of the Woodhouse family, brewers and apprentices, learnt about the company’s apprenticeship schemes and its support for the Teddy Rocks children’s cancer charity, unveiled a commemorative plaque and even pulled a pint behind the brewery bar.
The royal couple then travelled into Blandford Forum, where they were welcomed to the Corn Exchange to meet representatives from charities, voluntary organisations and community groups from across Dorset. Inside, they viewed displays celebrating the county’s work in areas including veterans’ support, domestic abuse services, faith, heritage, education and the arts, while Dorset Opera performed for invited guests. They also met some of the people involved in the restoration of the historic Corn Exchange.
Outside, accompanied by the sound of the parish church bells and a lively atmosphere in the Market Place, the King and Queen spent time meeting members of the public before visiting a selection of local farmers’ market stalls showcasing Dorset produce, including Sweetpea Florist, Tarrant Valley Honey, The Book and Bucket Cheese Company, From Dorset With Love, The Veg Lady and South Paddocks.
