Private gardens across Dorset will open their gates this June as part of the National Garden Scheme, helping to raise money for nursing and health charities.
Among this year’s highlights is a new joint opening at Cherry Cottage and Newton Cottage near Sturminster Newton on 21st June. The neighbouring gardens combine colourful planting, wildlife-friendly spaces and artists’ studios, with home-made teas and a plant sale available during the day. Elsewhere, visitors can explore the historic grounds of Athelhampton House on 21st June, visit the flower-filled Black Shed near Sherborne on 28th June, or enjoy the lakes, borders and mature trees of Whitemoor Farm near Wimborne on 7th June.
Many openings include refreshments, plant sales and the chance to meet the owners, who volunteer their time and expertise in support of the scheme. Most gardens also offer free admission for children, making them an appealing summer outing for families and gardening enthusiasts alike.
