Some of Dorset’s best-known landmarks will turn yellow and green this month in support of Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
Corfe Castle, Christchurch Priory and Weymouth Pavilion will be illuminated in the charity’s colours on Wednesday 9th September, joining landmarks across Somerset to mark national Air Ambulance Week, which runs from 7th to 13th September.
Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance was tasked to 2,738 incidents last year, responding by air and road for 19 hours a day. Each mission costs approximately £3,500 and the charity’s annual operating costs now exceed £10 million, funded largely through public support.
One important source of that income is its Flight for Life Lottery, which the charity says currently raises enough to fund almost three days of operations every week.

During Air Ambulance Week, the charity will also share the story of Santolo, who suffered a sudden brain haemorrhage at home when he was 11, highlighting the critical care its crews can bring directly to seriously ill and injured patients.
