Dorset Scholarship Opportunities at Milton Abbey School
13 June at 9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Dorset Scholars are those who live locally in the county and will contribute as an all-rounder to the life of the school, while benefitting from our educational approach.
Dorset Scholarship Assessment Day | Saturday 13 June
As a school, we deliver outstanding education with one of the broadest curriculums in the independent sector, sports every day, co-curricular evening and weekend activities, small class sizes, and nurturing pastoral care.
As a charity, we are committed to enabling access for pupils who will most suit our unique approach, through scholarships that recognise pupils’ abilities, and through annually reviewed, means-tested bursaries that help wider access to Milton Abbey School.
Dorset Scholarships carry a 10-30% reduction on fees, further means-tested support can raise this fee reduction to a maximum of 95%. In order for your child to be assessed for the Dorset Scholarship, they will need to undertake a morning with us, so that we can get to know them, and give them an opportunity to share the ways in which they feel they will contribute to and benefit from Milton Abbey School.
The morning will be split into three elements:
Presentation:
Dorset Scholars are expected to bring a short talk or presentation (maximum 3-5 minutes) about a subject area that has inspired them or interested them, whether that is through their school work, or outside of school. We are looking to understand their passions or strengths. We are not looking for applicants to read straight from a powerpoint filled with text.
Written Task:
All Dorset Scholars will undertake a 30 minute written task which is made up of three elements. One of which asks them to share something that they are proud of. This could be a way in which they have contributed to their local community, or a sporting achievement, or something similar. The other parts are an unseen element, which we do not expect students to have prepared for. Please let us know whether your child prefers to work with paper and pen, or if they will bring a device to type their answer.
Interview:
Dorset Scholars all undertake a short interview with a member of Academic staff. They will be asked various questions that may relate to their interests and presentation, or current affairs or life in Dorset. This interview is not looking for ‘right or wrong’ answers, but rather an opportunity to understand their approach to conversation and higher order thinking questions.
