The sights and sounds of the English Civil War will take over Mapperton House & Gardens this September, as the estate hosts its first Living History Weekend.
On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September, an English Civil War reenactment group will set up camp in Mapperton’s grounds for two days of battles, military drills and hands-on history.
Visitors will also be able to explore a 17th century camp, and discover more about everyday life during the period. Re-enactors will demonstrate traditional cooking and sewing, while younger visitors can try period games and activities.
The action moves to the croquet lawn for drill and drumming practice, with a programme of musket demonstrations, pike drills and parades throughout the day. The main battle demonstrations will take place on the field beyond, with the sound of drums and musket fire carrying across the estate.
The Living History Weekend runs from 10am to 5pm on both days, with visitors free to explore the wider grounds alongside the reenactment activities.
