Port Regis School in Motcombe, near Shaftesbury, has been named UK Boarding School of the Year at the Independent Schools of the Year Awards.
The award was announced at a ceremony at The Law Society in London on Wednesday 14th October. Organised by Independent School Parent, the awards attract more than 1,000 entries from junior and senior schools across the country.
Founded in 1881, Port Regis is an independent preparatory school where more than 70 per cent of pupils board in some form from Year 3. The school operates seven days a week, with evening and weekend activities available as part of its wider educational programme.
Day pupils also benefit from the boarding school’s facilities and extended activities. A ‘local day boarder’ scheme allows children in Years 3 and 4 to stay overnight for two nights a week free of charge.
The school combines academic teaching with sport, creative arts and practical skills, making use of its 150-acre campus. Over the past three years, Year 8 leavers have secured 94 scholarships to senior schools across the country.
Headmaster Titus Mills said: ‘What a tremendous honour and privilege it is for Port Regis to be named UK Boarding School of the Year. As one of the few remaining truly independent prep schools in the UK, we offer children a very special, joyful childhood. We are able to give them the time and space for this through the boarding school ethos and experience, which allows us to give them such a huge range of learning opportunities, all within a 150 acre campus.’
He added: ‘This award is for everyone associated with Port Regis – parents, pupils, staff, alumni and beyond – who make up our wonderful school community. All should feel rightly very proud of this success – your fingerprints are all over this trophy! Thank you to the Independent Schools of the Year Awards – we are genuinely thrilled.’
