Only bands at The Exchange? Have another look.

Date:

Bands may still be a familiar sight at The Exchange in Sturminster Newton, and some very good ones too, but things are beginning to look a little different. This autumn offers a broader mix of cinema, theatre, comedy, cabaret, silent discos, a family animal show, antiques and cellos with Julian and Jiaxin Lloyd Webber.

The next National Theatre Live screening is in November, with The Misanthrope, starring Sandra Oh. If the title doesn’t ring any bells, the power of watching a dark comedy filmed live at the National Theatre is something not to be missed. The next cinema showing, on Thursday 15th October, will be The Christophers with a remarkable cast including Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, James Corden and Jessica Gunning.
Before that, there are still tickets for Women On The Edge, a cabaret with Charlie Bicknell and Louise Innes. It’s sharp-witted, funny and deliciously unpredictable – and it’s on soon. For more predictable humour, you can try Vicar of Dibley Christmas – at the end of October – from SNADS.
Early in November, Stu McLoughlin, of Living Spit, combines forces with William Shakespeare to present The Tragedy of Omlet, Prince of Hen-mark; one man, one egg and a trolley full of comestibles.
The Exchange is working hard to become more family-friendly, and the very popular Sunday morning Family Silent Disco will be happening again on 15th November – but the evening before, by popular demand, there will be a Silent Disco for the grown-ups! In both cases, just come and enjoy.
Before that, Animal Guyz, Amazing Animals returns for two daytime shows on Sunday 8th November – packed full of music, comedy and amazing animal effects, but with NO LIVE ANIMALS!
If antiques and medals interest you, in November Mark Smith, from BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, will be speaking on For Valour: The Story of the Victoria Cross. VIP tickets are available for a private session with your own family medals or militaria.
On a similar theme, the Salamanca Band and Bugles of the Rifles will be playing on behalf of the Army Benevolent Fund in October.
Coming back to music, Julian Lloyd Webber and his wife Jiaxin will be bringing their Bachs, Bows and Arrows tour to north Dorset, including live performances from them both. It will be an intimate evening with one of Britain’s most distinguished musicians.
And of course, there are some bands – tributes to Dire Straits and ELO, and Jamie Moses is bringing Los Pacaminos back!
