Sherborne Town Council has approved funding of £92,000 over four years to support three local organisations delivering community services in the town.
The funding will be shared between The Rendezvous, Sherborne Town Band and the Sherborne Area Youth and Community Centre (SAYCC), providing longer-term support for their community activity.
The Rendezvous works with young people to build confidence, improve mental health and support pathways into education and employment. Chief executive Helen Da Silva Wood said demand for its services is rising, with a current waiting list, and described the council’s backing as important at a time when funding is increasingly uncertain.
Sherborne Town Band, established in 1961, combines performance with a strong youth programme. The funding will help maintain free access to tuition, instruments and music for young players.
The SAYCC building, home to Tinney’s Youth Club, is used by a range of local groups, including organisations supporting people with learning difficulties. Trustees say the funding will help keep the facility affordable and accessible.
Town Clerk Steve Shield said the council was pleased to support organisations delivering practical benefits to the local community.
