A new three-year plan has been launched to help ensure Dorset businesses can recruit the skilled workers they need to grow.
The Dorset Local Skills Improvement Plan brings together employers, education providers, local authorities and training organisations to better match skills provision with the county’s economic needs.
The plan identifies a number of sectors facing growing demand, including advanced manufacturing, engineering, defence, marine, construction, digital technology, financial and professional services, health and care and clean energy. It also aims to make training and workforce support easier for businesses to access.
Developed by Dorset Chamber for Skills England, the plan will run until 2029 and is intended to help shape future training provision across the county.
Dorset Chamber chief executive Ian Girling said businesses were facing increasing pressure from changing technology, recruitment challenges and rising costs. “Investing in people has never been more important,” he said.
The Local Skills Improvement Plan will now be used to guide collaboration between employers, colleges, universities and local authorities, with the aim of building a workforce better equipped for Dorset’s future economy.
