Your favourite dose of Dorset is here – only this month it got a whole heap prettier…
Well… here it is. We’re Dorset Life!
New name, fresh look, same Dorset at its heart – just brighter, bolder, and (we think) rather lovely.
Inside this very first issue (or issue 69 if you’re counting in old money):
I’ve been looking at just how much countryside we’re prepared to lose, while Rachael was looking into the NHS cuts that don’t look quite so “back office admin” when you live here.
We’ve a man and his packhorse walking Dorset’s hillforts, and have been hearing about just some of the potential savings that might be the Plan B to stop our fire stations disappearing.
PLUS we just happen to have Sir Derek Jacobi – yes, actual him – sharing his Dorset Island Discs. PLUS his Random 19 too, because he thought the questions were too fun not to.
We also talk to Alice Miller, farm vet, on the reality of 24-hour rural life, and this is the month for Gay Pirrie-Weir’s annual must-have round up of the county’s entire open-air theatre season.
We’ve got the inside track on what’s new at this year’s Dorset Spring Show (Yes, there’s a 13ft dinosaur and OF COURSE we’ve knobbled the map for you). Oh and we have a healthy dose of Dorset rage opinion from both the Grumbler and our Dorset Insider (brace yourself).
Plus, of course, the history, the horses (don’t miss poor Squish’s unfortunate Choke incident), and 12 – you heard me, TWELVE! – pages of your photography. Which, as ever, steals the entire show.
All that, redesigned, refreshed and ready to go. And all totally free, too. I know, we deserve a biscuit.*
*As I write, it’s 4am on publication night/morning. The biscuits are long gone and doughnuts may also have been consumed. Ssshhhh, we’ve had Quite The Week.
