Our Commitment

Bluebean Publishing Ltd is committed to operating our business responsibly and minimising our impact on the environment wherever practical.

As the publisher of Dorset Life, we recognise the importance of protecting the landscapes, wildlife and rural communities that are at the heart of our journalism.

Although we are a small business, we believe that responsible choices – both operationally and editorially – can make a positive difference.

Digital-First Publishing

Dorset Life is a purely digital publication.

By publishing digitally rather than in print, we significantly reduce the environmental impacts associated with paper production, printing, transportation and unsold copies.

Where possible, we encourage digital communication and distribution across all aspects of our business.

Reducing Our Environmental Impact

We aim to:

  • minimise unnecessary printing;
  • reduce paper consumption wherever practical;
  • recycle office materials responsibly;
  • use energy efficiently within our home offices;
  • extend the life of equipment where appropriate before replacing it;
  • dispose of electronic waste responsibly through approved recycling schemes.

Travel

Where practical, we reduce unnecessary travel by using telephone and video meetings.

However, as a local news publisher, travel is often necessary to attend interviews, community events, agricultural shows and other editorial assignments. Where travel is required, we aim to combine journeys efficiently and minimise unnecessary mileage.

Purchasing

Where reasonably practical, we seek to work with suppliers who demonstrate responsible environmental practices.

When purchasing equipment or services, environmental considerations will be taken into account alongside quality, suitability and value.

Editorial Responsibility

Environmental issues are an important part of life in Dorset.

Through our journalism we aim to report responsibly on matters affecting the countryside, farming, wildlife, climate, conservation and the natural environment, helping readers make informed decisions without compromising our editorial independence.

Continuous Improvement

We recognise that environmental responsibility is an ongoing process.

We will continue to review our working practices and look for practical opportunities to reduce our environmental impact as our business develops.

Responsibility

The Directors of Bluebean Publishing Ltd are responsible for implementing this policy and reviewing it periodically.

Everyone working on behalf of Bluebean Publishing Ltd is encouraged to support these principles through their day-to-day work.
