Wimborne’s knitters turn from forget-me-nots to poppies

Date:

After covering the Museum of East Dorset with more than 9,000 hand-knitted forget-me-nots earlier this year, Dorset’s knitters and crocheters have been issued a new challenge – creating hundreds of poppies for Remembrance.
The museum is asking for donations of spare red and black wool, which will be turned into poppies to decorate the building in November in memory of those who lost their lives in the world wars.

Knitting patterns are available from the museum, with further patterns available through the Royal British Legion.
‘Every ball of wool will help us create a meaningful display for Remembrance,’ said museum director Francesca Hollow.
The project is also being supported by Dave Keig, Poppy Appeal Organiser for Wimborne and surrounding villages, who says knitted and crocheted poppies are always popular at local collection stands and hopes the display will raise further awareness of the appeal. Red and black wool can be dropped off at the Museum of East Dorset, opposite Wimborne Minster.
