Our Commitment
Bluebean Publishing Ltd is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for everyone involved in our business.
As a small independent publisher operating primarily from home offices, we recognise our responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and other relevant UK health and safety legislation.
Although our day-to-day activities present relatively low health and safety risks, we are committed to maintaining safe working practices and reviewing them regularly.
Responsibilities
The Directors of Bluebean Publishing Ltd are responsible for:
- promoting safe working practices;
- identifying and reducing foreseeable risks;
- ensuring appropriate equipment is used safely;
- complying with relevant health and safety legislation;
- reviewing this policy periodically.
All contractors, freelancers and anyone working on behalf of Bluebean Publishing Ltd are expected to work safely and take reasonable care for their own health and safety.
Home Working
As the business operates primarily through remote working, we encourage safe home working practices, including:
- maintaining a suitable workstation;
- using appropriate seating and display equipment where practical;
- taking regular breaks from computer screens;
- avoiding unnecessary manual handling of heavy equipment;
- maintaining a safe and tidy working environment.
Wellbeing
We recognise the importance of physical and mental wellbeing.
We aim to maintain a supportive and flexible working environment that encourages a healthy work-life balance, reasonable workloads and open communication.
Equipment
Any business equipment provided by Bluebean Publishing Ltd should be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and maintained in good working order.
Electrical equipment should be visually checked for damage before use and any faults addressed promptly.
Visits and Events
From time to time our work requires attendance at events, interviews, agricultural shows, businesses and other public locations.
When undertaking work away from home offices we will:
- carry out sensible assessments of any foreseeable risks;
- follow site rules and instructions;
- wear appropriate clothing or personal protective equipment where required;
- take reasonable precautions when travelling.
Contractors and Freelancers
Where we engage freelancers, photographers, writers or other contractors, they remain responsible for their own health and safety whilst carrying out their work.
Where appropriate, we will provide relevant information regarding any known risks associated with assignments.
Accident Reporting
Any accidents, injuries or significant near misses occurring during work activities should be recorded and reviewed so that lessons can be learned and appropriate action taken where necessary.
Review
This policy will be reviewed periodically, or sooner if there are significant changes to our business activities or legal responsibilities.
