I thought July was busy, but August has been absolutely bonkers! The hot weather brought people out, and the pub has been wonderfully busy, with families coming to enjoy the play park and make the most of the shade under the trees in our beer garden.
On Monday 10th August, I was very excited to be asked to do a lunch and talk for the NFU at Hampreston Farm in Wimborne for the local Dorset Councillors. I was joined by Katie Cooper from South Paddocks and Stephen Toop from Tarrant Valley Honey. It was a great success, with lots of very positive feedback. The councillors really enjoyed talking to the farmers and learning about our local food and producers – a great day was had by all.
August is also a busy time for the local agricultural shows, from Gillingham & Shaftesbury and Melplash through to the Dorset County Show at the beginning of September. The shows play a vital role in connecting farmers with the general non-farming public and their food. They do help to teach people about the importance of supporting our British farmers and producers.
Awards night
Tickets are now on sale for the Love Local, Trust Local 2026 Awards Evening, taking place on 24th September. Everyone is welcome – come and celebrate with us as we recognise the wonderful achievements and successes of Dorset’s producers over the past year.
The menu will be a showcase of the very best of what is produced here in Dorset, and it promises to be a fantastic evening celebrating our producers that farm, fish, grow, produce, rear, brew, craft or cook right here in Dorset.
