A garden for wildlife

Colin Varndell’s account of how he made his garden a haven for wildlife – and an outdoor photographic studio

I HAD been photographing Dorset wildlife for some years when it became clear that this could become more than just a hobby. I had no desire to travel the world in pursuit of exotic images, but instead I wanted to specialise in photographing local Dorset wildlife. I felt that if we had a small patch of land of our own, this would enable me to concentrate my photography at home and in turn, share my passion for natural history with my family.
