The Dorset walk – Poole

If you are lucky, your walk may coincide with the opening of the iconic Twin Sails bridge. The ambitious engineering has suffered problems, but the visual effect is stunning.
DESPITE the hundreds of wonderful walking routes in the Dorset countryside, it is good to ring the changes very occasionally by doing a town-based walk. There are even those who prefer it, perhaps because for some reason it is difficult for them to get out into
the country.
There are few better towns in which to walk than Poole, because of its many waterside paths and pavements and its imaginatively planned open spaces. Some street walking is inevitable, but on this route it is mainly got out of the way in the first part of the walk. Thereafter, the walk takes in Holes Bay, with its view of the wonderful Twin Sails bridge, the RNLI headquarters, the historic Old Town, the Quay, the open space known as Baiter, and Poole Park.
