Ken Ayres takes his camera to one of Dorset’s most handsome villages

This fire appliance, dating from 1809, has pride of place in the village museum. The fire brigade was very much a village initiative and it is said that they were dealing with a rick fire in Duck Lane when the ‘official’ brigade arrived from Sturminster Newton and a fight broke out between the two groups over who should put out the blaze.
