DUNCLIFFE Hill is something of a freak in the Blackmore Vale, its wooded bulk heaving up to nearly 700 feet out of the meadows and pastures characteristic of the rest of the Vale. To the geologist, it is an outlier of the upper greensand plateau on which Shaftesbury, three miles to the east, is built.
