Toller Porcorum
Ken Ayres takes his camera to the unusually named west Dorset village

The first part of Toller Porcorum’s name comes from the River Hooke, which was known as the Toller until the 15th century. Because of an abundance of pigs, the village became ‘Swynestolre’. In the 14th century it was owned by Abbotsbury Abbey, whose monks latinised the name; ‘Porcorum’ means ‘of the pigs’.
