Flower of hope
Snowdrops are the first sign that winter may be coming to an end and in Kingston Lacy, Dorset has one of the best places in the country to see them. John Newth reports.

THE snowdrop has several alternative names, of which ‘flower of hope’ is perhaps the most expressive: after the dark days of a long winter, the brave green shoots breaking through hard-frozen ground and perhaps a covering of snow, then forming drifts of white under the budding trees, allow us to hope that the brighter days of spring may really be on their way.
