WE ALL HAVE our lists of favourite Dorset villages, and anyone who has visited Nether Compton must surely include it in theirs. It is blissfully quiet, being basically on the road to nowhere. Its golden stone, mostly quarried locally but yielding nothing in its attractive colour to the more famous Ham stone, glows in the sun. And the assemblage of buildings around the village green gives a satisfying feeling of a compact community.
